omg its sooo important to get at least 7 hours a sleep each day. your mind needs to unwind and there are other very important processes yoru body needs to go through.
you wont function properly at all!! not to mention your psionic skills wont be too hot....
you have to go through all four sleeping cycles. dont take sleep for granted.

I'm glad you are on the "sleeping side." Very Happy
Yeah, you kids need to lay off the TV and video games and just damn well sleep.
I am not a professional in the sleeping field or anything. But with my experiences in life I don't believe in that sleeping disorder called: "Insomnia" or whatever.
In my past I have had plenty of sleeping problems. But I didn't let it stop me from sleeping! I hanged in there, for hours. And eventually your mind will learn that it can actually sleep. I just think most are highly negative about there sleep and therefore the brain follows them.
If not sleep, you should just meditate which isn't as good as sleep, but it is better than no sleep.

I get 6, have been getting 6 for hte past 5 years. And I've been fine with it.

teenage brains, as my psych teacher explains, are busy emitting horomones into your body, that the natural process of sleep kicking in comes at a later date. this doesn't apply for children and adults.

I've never heard of that. I think it has to do with how you are raised.
I do know that children and teens are the one's who need sleep the most though.

I get anywhere from 4-8 hours a night. Usually around 6. That girl who said she hasn't slept in a week was either lying or on hardcore drugs. I can't stand when kids think it's "cool" to say they've been awake for so long. She was trying to sound "cool". There's no way she stayed awake that long because she chose to. She's in highschool with you I bet. She'd be sleeping through every class by day 3. Tell her to stop lying Very Happy . Anyways I think noone gets that much sleep because of the type of people you are asking. Everyone's 12-22 give or take. Ask people who are 35-50 and you'll get different results. However it is proven that people overall, are getting less sleep nowadays. A lot of survey's say it's because of the current lifestyle and "they're aren't enough hours in the day". I say it's organization. You'll get enough sleep if you're organized. (I'm not lol)
It's not always that case if you would actually look into it...a friend of mine has to take a medication to get to sleep in good intervals but he was becoming addicted to it just to sleep so they took him off it.....He remembered sleep Wednesday(it was Thursday) but he meant the week before. It's just a really bad case of an insomnia type thing. Wink

There are exceptions to every rule. The case you're describing is very rare. I doubt this girl had the same problem with sleep aid addictions, which would be a drug problem. As I said could be the case in my 1st post. But thanks for the useless story Very Happy...Also I bet if your friend didn't sleep for 5 days straight, he'd be sleeping on the 6th. You said it was just to get him to sleep at good intervals. Not to just be able to sleep. Your body won't function after a set number of days without sleep.

derricktheone, you can be more polite and mature aboout the whole conversation I mean I simply put one of my experiences with the matter, you didn't have to shoot me down....

and somefatguy, insomnia is a real medical condition(having to do with the body not going to sleep in constant intervals at consistant times) and I function quite well on about 6 hours of sleep. Very Happy

Sorry if I sounded too harsh but I took your "if you would actually look into it" comment as an insult. But you weren't just mentioning an experience, you were trying to cut up my statement or something.

lol... i actually dont really get sleep. I have ap classes, and tend to be VERY lazy. i procrastinate until around 3 am, and then decide i am going to start homework. and well, i usually get like 2-3 hours max. i dont sleep in any classes , but i was slipping in an out of conciousness in trig like 80 fucking times today. i think the teacher noticed. This is while sitting up.

The weekends is when i sleep (well, usually), i get home on a friday, and i fall asleep, after school, and get up, and its saturday night.

I've got a friend whose an insomniac. He says he sleeps about twenty minutes each night. It explains his sluggish, lazy, and stoned-like behavior! I'm surprised SFG doesn't believe in insomnia. When I didn't get sleep on certain nights I tried being positive but it didn't work. It drove me crazy and I started coming up with ridiculous scientific theories that seemed perfectly rational at the time Shocked. I guess that would make me the mad scientist type of insomniac Razz. (if I were an insomniac that is)

Same here Smile. In fact, I pretty much have to. Not much choice since I have to get up at 5:15 on school days. I get my sleep back on the weekends. But really everybody, it is best to get as much sleep as you can. The recommended amount of sleep for maximum brain performance for teenagers is 9 hours and 45 minutes (Of course, I could only get that much sleep on weekends sadly.). Simply getting a few hours more sleep each day may help you in school. I saw tests performed on two teenagers on the discovery channel. The results were scary. The girl who got maybe two or three more hours of sleep did way better on the activities that were part of the experiment. I hope this information may have inspired someone to get more sleep. That is all I have to offer on this thread so far. Farewell...

I'm good on 6 hours, better on 7. but if i get 8 or 9, sometimes that's too much and i'm tired during the day. oh, and I need after noon naps. Very Happy

I accidently got 11hrs last night because my after school nap ran over until 5am the next day. Razz it's not fun to wake up to homework and not have good eyesight- I have contacts that you put in at night and then your visions good the next day.
