I haven't seen any documents that prove what it is, I've seen plenty of speculation. Its natural, but thats about all I can say without speculation.

A lot of times when this happens, a lot of people experience whats known as the "old hag". It is some really scary sh!t. It often takes the shape of some sort of beast or demonic creature. What I do to avoid S.P. is not drink caffine before bed, sleep on my side, and maybe meditate before bed.

SP is diffrent to everyone, i induce SP so i can acheive WILD. SP is where your body is asleep and your mind is still conciouse. the "old hag" thing is just people going seeing hypnogogic images.

your body paralyzes itself when it sleeps, probably a good thing because if it didn't we'd act out our dreams. anyway, sometimes you can wake up before it wears off, thus, sleep paralysis. Also, if you have heard any of the alien abduction stories, they sound suspiciously like sleep paralysis.

i think it's pretty much what WhiteRaven said.
your body puts itself in paralysis so it doesn't act out your dreams and such. (etc etc, whatever they said) there's also a theory that every night when you sleep you just naturally have an obe, and sleep paralysis is when you just haven't quite gotten all the way back into your body yet. and yes...it sucks lol. |
