I've seen some crazy ways to spell things I never thought possible on these forums...Maybe a simple "spell-in-check" mod would be appropriate for those in dire need of one... Laughing

Yes, No? Your thoughts?

Edit: If Peebs installed the mod that phpbb offers I don't think it would be that difficult to implement at all...(for him)

I choose undecided because even if there was one, nobody would use it. It would be a waste of time to program it in. And, you would think people would be smart enough to try and spell correctly.

Indeed, I see your point but I just think it would be a convenience for those who are too lazy to open up Word or a dictionary. Plus, they wouldn't have an excuse go with if there was a spell check...

I said no because as Apollo said it takes a lot of time to program it in, and I just don't think its worth it. But its not a bad idea at all to have one...

Most typos I make are because I tend to type to quickly and I miss a letter or something. Now, the problem is people who can't type at all, using u and nvm and shit like that. That's what looks bad, not the occasional typo.

I do the same thing sometimes. Accidentally dropping a letter, switching two letters around, or accidentally replacing a word with a homonym (like their, there, and they're).

You could possibly find an open-source spell-check somewhere available for use, then all that would need to be done would be customization, and implementation.

Why don't you just edit the post? If you don't know how to spell a word why not just not use it? Or if you have to use it, why not just enter at www.answers.com?

Most people don't think as logically as you do or because they are too lazy too hit the edit button and try to fix it. Come on, Sloth is one of the seven deadly sins... Very Happy We all do it but to an extent ofcourse. Razz

I don't think it would be of much use. People should just learn to spell. Wink

There are phpBB scripts that you "write into" the pages, but they're a bitch to get working.

I tried about 4 different versions on my site and it broke phpBB every single time.

Maybe that's why I dont see them on any phpBB forums?

you can't have spellcheck on a forum, that would be too much coding and I doubt the phpBB developers would want to put one in anyway. If people can't spell that's their problem for not learning properly at school and is not the problem of the MODS of the board. So in short, this will never happen.
