    Sit Cross Legged
    Put hands in lap
Relax but dont try too hard just kinda sit there.
Concentrate on you breathing for like a minute.Don't think about anything else. Just concentrate on breathe in, breathe out.
Then count back from 100. It doesnt have to be SLOW but it shouldnt be fast either...just like in seconds almost.
Then count from 1 to 100...
Then imagine a chalkboard, notebook, or paper BLANK!
Start writing. I write in a notebook and use it as my "mental journal"
I write about my day. People I hate stuff like that.
Then it's really up to you what you do from there.

I like the lotus position not because it's comfy, but because it keeps me awake. Meditation isn't supposed to be deep relaxation, you dont want to get sleepy while meditating.

EDIT: Don't misunderstand, the lotus position is comfy in the sense that you can keep your body sitting upright without having to make an effort. If you're sitting in lotus, you automatically get a good balance with practically no effort.

Dont worry so much about the exact process such as sitting cross legged, counting back from 100, or visualizations. Meditation (aside from deep breathing) is solely a mental process. Rather than focusing on whether your breathing in or breathing out, take deep slow full breaths until you are relaxed and it becomes the natural way to breath. Relaxing yourself is the most difficult part of getting comfortable and into a groove. The reason I say the visualizations are not necessary is because they are trying to attain a focus, but you will only distract yourself by focusing your attention on visualing something. My advice is to do your best to simply relax and be until you can still your string of thoughts and silence your inner monologue. Then the task of thinking about nothing (or not thinking) can begin. The thoughts you would write on the paper will come to your mind whether you visualize or not. Reflect on them, understand them, then let them go until no more thoughts come. It takes time and patience, but if you strive to make your mind a void you will undoubtedly progress.
